19th Eve Of Remembrance
UND Eve of Remembrance Ceremony
Our Lady of Pity Church
Staten Island, NY
The 20th Annual Solemn Remembrance of 9/11 was held at the Church of Our Lady of Pity on Friday, September 10, 2021. The evening is sponsored by University of Notre Dame Alumni Club of Staten Island. The evening began with 30 minutes of music by the Maura Molloy Group. A con celebrated Mass began at 7:30, and Bishop John O’Hara was the main celebrant and homilist. Many priests and deacons attended the event.
An honor guard was provided by the Knights of Columbus, and the Holy Name Society of St Anthony of Padua marched in and sat as a group.
All the names of the Staten Island victims on 9/11 and the additional victims of 9/11 related illness were read by members of the club and students from the Island’s Catholic High Schools. The number of victims is over 330.
Shortly before the conclusion of the Mass, Staten Island Pipes and Drums played “Amazing Grace” as the church was turned into darkness, with just the Altar candles burning.
Following the service, the pipers and drummers performed more selections in the parking lot next to the parish hall.
