EMT Richard McMahon was released from Richmond University Medical Center on Thursday, May 19, 2022 after a harrowing incident the evening before.
On Wednesday, May 18, 2022, an EMT crew from Richmond University Medical Center responded around 7:30 PM to a call of an EDP at “The Funkey Monkey Lounge”, located at 1205 Forest Avenue. They removed the individual and began a transport to Richmond University Medical Center (RUMC). A mile into their transport, the patient, Thomas McCauley, 37 yrs old, pulled a gun on the EMT, Richard McMahon, and shot him. The ambulance driver pulled over on the 600 block of Forest Avenue, at Bement Avenue. The patient then bolted out of the ambulance, attempting to escape. He was captured at the location by two passers by, a retired NYPD Detective, Marty Grahm and a DSNY Lt Joseph Perrone, who was off duty with his family.
Both Grahm and Perrone came to RUMC as EMT McMahon was released to cheering EMT’s from all over the region.
The incident occurred in the 120 PCT.
