The annual St Patrick’s Day Parade was held on Forest Avenue in West Brighton, Staten Island today mired in controversy.
The parade organizers denied access to a group representing the LGBTQ+ community that wanted to march under their own banner.
Many groups backed out of the parade. Prior to the start of the Parade and One Mile Run/Walk, a press conference was held where
supporters of the group spoke. Many participants in the run/walk participated in support of the banned group.Mayor Eric Adams
walked in the run/walk with the Pride Center of Staten Island group and banner, but he did not participate in the parade.
Local politicians that did march in the parade were Staten Island Boro President Vito Fossella and Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis.
