United States Coast Guard Sector New York paid tribute today to Douglas Munro, Medal of Honor Recipient, who saved US Marines in World War Two. He is the only Coast Guard members ever to receive the award. September 27, 1942 is the date he died in action at Guadalcanal. Attending the remembrance were Sector New York Commander Captain Zeita Merchant; Command Master Chief Robert Riemer; Chaplain Keith Connors; Marine Corp League Staten Island Commandant; and New York Council Navy League representatives.
